We were able to successfully plant the rice we grow every year for our own consumption this year as well.

This is the second year that the seedlings were planted and grown by the children in the field nursery.

The larger ones have grown to about 30cm and are starting to tiller. They are large and sturdy, so planting just one seedling is enough. Unlike sowing in trays, there is no need to tear them apart, so I like being able to plant them quickly and rhythmically.
We dug up the seeds the day before, and on the day itself, rain was forecast for the afternoon, so we gathered early in the morning and started planting.
Draw lines vertically and horizontally and plant at the intersections.
Eight people worked on a rice field measuring about 1.5 tan (approx. 1.5 hectares). We finished planting at exactly 12 o'clock, and at the same time, it started to rain!
The rice field I rented this year had a concrete bank that tilted last fall, causing sand to wash away and water to leak out. On the other side, for some reason, spring water is gushing out, so the field is constantly wet. It's a very difficult field (lol).
When we started to add water, we didn't have time to stand there in shock as we saw the water gushing out from the tilted bank.We also had a lot of trouble building banks to prevent water leakage together with the Takekawa rice field team, who started working with us in the rice fields this year.

Hand planting requires a lot of time and manpower, but the act of moving your body and using your own hands to cover the vast, muddy brown rice fields with greenery gives you a sense of being alive, something that you can't get from machines.

The feeling of using all five senses, from the soles of your feet to the tips of your ears, is something you don't often experience in your daily life.
