Amagumo Newsletter, April 2025, 2nd week, vol.36

This year's early spring temperatures were relatively low, allowing us to enjoy the cherry blossoms for a long period of time.

It's the season for new buds to appear in the mountains. New green leaves slowly rise to the top of the mountains. The pale pink color of the mountain cherry blossoms peeking out here and there among the fresh green of the Japanese bush is very beautiful and captivating.

Cabbage, lettuce, radishes, turnips and other leafy vegetables are growing vigorously in the fields. Perhaps because it has suddenly gotten warmer recently, the summer grasses have started to sprout all at once, and I've been busy weeding every morning and evening. As a result, it's been a month since my last blog update ^^;

In the greenhouse, the temperature is maintained at around 25°C, and the summer vegetables are growing well. With planting just around the corner, we are busy preparing the fields.

As the temperature and humidity rose, everyone sowed rice seeds on the day of "Grain Rain," which has traditionally been considered a good day for sowing seeds.

Starting this year, I was able to rent a large rice field near my house, which meant I could start growing rice together with my friends in the neighborhood, so we all got together and started working on sowing the seeds. With the help of children, we drew lines on the fluffy field and then soaked the rice seeds in water for a week to germinate them before lowering them into the ground.

The children enjoyed sowing the seeds the most. Even the two-year-olds imitated the adults and sowed the seeds along the lines very skillfully.

Last year, the children were only one year old and still unsteady with their hands, so all they could do was scatter the seeds in one place. It was amazing to see them now sowing seeds as skillfully as adults, and they even helped water the seeds after sowing.

"Work like you're playing." When working with children, you realize that they can learn about work that is directly related to their livelihood while playing around with adults working.
