[Shipping or pick-up on December 26th] We are now accepting reservations for smooth rice cakes pounded with a 100-year-old stone mill.
The countdown to the end of the year has already begun.
Since the days of Pitara Farm, we have always had the annual end-of-year event of mochi pounding!
The legendary glutinous rice "Mangetsu" grown by Pitara's farming team is harvested, sun-dried, and slowly steamed over a wood fire in a handmade sun-dried brick oven located in Pitara's garden. It's quite a luxurious rice cake.
The stone mill at Usu Hapitara has been sleeping in a storehouse that is over 100 years old. The stone mill, carved out of a single rock, is incredibly heavy and has to be rolled around. However, the rough surface of the stone ensures that the rice is thoroughly ground, resulting in a much smoother rice than rice pounded in a wooden mortar. This further enhances the delicious flavor of the "Mangetsu."
The mochi pounding will be on December 22nd and 23rd. We will be making 10 mortars a day, for a total of 20 over two days, so it's a very athletic event.
The pounded rice cakes are poured into molds, left to dry a little, cut into pieces, and then packaged with love on December 24th and 25th, right in the middle of Christmas.

We are also accepting orders for handmade New Year's decorations.
These shimenawa decorations are made from naturally grown makomo (rice grass). Since ancient times, makomo has been considered a sacred plant and has been used for rugs and New Year's decorations. A member of the grass family that grows to nearly 2 meters tall, it is also used in tea and pillows. Some say that the original shimenawa decorations were made from makomo, and at Izumo Taisha Shrine, makomo shimenawa are displayed. It is said that gods walk on makomo to visit each household. We hand-weave the rope and create shimenawa decorations decorated with auspicious items such as nandina and ears of ancient rice. Let's decorate with sacred makomo and pray for happiness in the coming year.
This product can also be bundled with a vegetable set or rice cakes.
